I tried downloading voice Jill and Samantha but the system preference told me can't download because I have no internet connection. However, I know that I do because I'm surfing with Safari and typing this up. Is this a glitch on Lion for now....? Has anyone tried to get new voices?

Yep. Have sent off queries to a few forums (fora?) and noticed others with similar problems. No answers of thoughts yet. Hopefully it's something simple.

Are you connected via wireless/Extreme/similar, by any chance?

That's kind of weird cause I downloaded 4 other voices and some from other countries and it works just fine.

same problem here, click a few of the different voices from the voiceover utility and it says i cannot download at the moment cos its not connected to the internet. Obviously I am as I am browsing on a webpage in a different window.

After some experimentation (What could possibly go wrong, eh?) I found that I could download the new voices if I changed my Location (in Network prefs) from Automatic to a specific location. Hope that helps.

yep - solved by reading a tip on another forum - delete current network settings inherited from previous OS, allow iMac to reconfigure new network settings and now you no longer get the "not connected to internet" error msg, u can download the new voices.

That didn't work for me. I went as far as deleting all my known connections, then re-connected. But it still said I don't have network connection when I tried to download Jill and Samantha. When I 'checked' on the Jill and Samantha voices a caution icon went up 'this voice will load automatically'. I take this means that it's not available and will download automatically when it's available? Not sure.

UPDATE: Unchecked 'Auto proxy discovery' works.

I have installed some additional voices via TTS utility in Settings, but after
installation is finished I can't choose them from drop-down menu - they disappear right after being chosen. Finally only Alex voice is accessible for use.

Repairing permissions doesn't help, reinstalling voices doesn't help too.
In console I have found some strings following this faulty behavior:

So is this trying to determine our geographical location, presumably so the system knows which version of the voice to download?
