Empty Trash 56000 files?
Firefox was constantly locking my mac mini up so I deleted it and did a new install. Now when I try to empty trash, it only lets me choose secure empty trash and it says there is over 56000 files. I secure empty trashed a picture before the firefox incident it only said there was the one file. Does anyone know what the deal is?

Have you deleted an application package?

that would be one "file" but a package containing many more files and maybe secure empty trash treats it as a deletion of the package and all its contained individual files

I guess I did. I used appcleaner to remove firefox out of the applications folder. I take it that is a package and not just a regular file? I dont care if it removes that many files, as long as nothing important made its way in there. If its just firefox containing that many files, then its fine with me.

Did you check to see if FF had it's own un-installer before using that other app?

Where would that be located? I didnt see anything.

It doesn't - it's a plain ol' app bundle.

As to why there are 56000 files in your trash is a mystery but one thing to note is how files are counted. As mentioned by louishen, an application is actually a glorified folder (which you can look into by right clicking and selecting "Show Package Contents"). Now, the Firefox application bundle does not contain 56000 files but if you add up the files of other applications and folders, it might if you haven't deleted anything in a while.

The file count would include all the temp files from the browser such as cookies and the like, so could end up being that many

When in doubt, repair your permissions from disk utility.

I guess it was just that many files in firefox. I went ahead and deleted and everything and nothing seems to be jacked up. I think I'm good to go. Thanks for the help everybody.
