Hi,

I was trying to update my OS when i realised the progress bar wasn't moving. i stupidly restarted it and now my disk is damaged beyond repair...i stupidly didnt back it up for ages and there are some important files on there, when i click 'open disk image' under the install disks disk utility i can see that my files are still there so they do still exist, however i am in the setting to chose a disk image therefore cannot move them to my external harddrive. how do i move them safely to an external harddrive when i cannot boot?

Thanks

Hard luck.

Data Rescue 3 for Mac has a demo available for download from their web site. You can use that to see if the full program can access your files.

Mac Data Rescue, Mac Disk Recovery, Macintosh File Recovery - Prosofteng.com

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
