    Error when downloading software updates
I've been trying to download software updates (Itunes, Garage Band etc.), and they seem to be downloading fine, then at the end the following message - or similar appears:

I don't know why, or what I can do to get the download/install to complete? I haven't had my MacBook Pro for long - so still learning the ins and outs!

Imac 27" Retina 5K, 512GB flash memory, 3.3GHz, 16GB memory, macOS Sierra beta.
G'day and welcome to the forums.

First question is are you using Snow Leopard OS X.6.7 as latest versions may need this OS? Helps if you provide the operating system. Latest versions require Snow Leopard.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

OK, this is going to sound really stupid - but how do I know if I am using Snow Leopard OS X.6.7?
    Thanks!

    21.5" iMac i5 2.9 Ghz, 15" MBPro i7 2.0 Ghz, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, ATV2, ATV3, iPad2, iPad Mini
Is it possible it cannot expand the compressed file because you do not have enough room on your Hard Disk?
    How full is it?

    Just a thought

It appears your downloads are getting corrupted. This could be a problem with your ISP (connection). How do you access the internet? And are you using ethernet or wireless?

It seems I have plenty of space left on the HD - 286.5GB. I use a dongle internet connection (3 in australia - pay as you go) - so perhaps this is the problem?

3 is more than likely the problem.....
I had nothing but problems with them.
They had me on a 24mth contract, but released me due to their sales rep stating that it was Mac compatible, and this was not the case.

thanks for that 6 string, i have had so many troubles with them since i got my mac. We're looking at wireless options at the moment, so hopefully won't have to put up with it for too much longer!
    Thanks everyone for your help

No worries.... as you know, the options are scarce, and the prices are high where we are for wireless (mobile internet).
Even for ADSL2+ etc, you are paying top $ for slow speeds compared to our friends in the states, but thems the breaks.

I'm with TPG, on ADSL2+, and it's value for $, but the service has been getting worse over the years, but am sticking with it until something better with a reasonable price range comes along.

Depending where you are, look at Internode. They are Mac specialists however ADSL2 is not available outside metropolitan areas in most cases. E.G. here on the Mid North Coast of NSW, ADSLReach is the only option as Bigpong will not release ports or some such.

And to think we left Armidale where the NBN was rolled out yesterday! Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time again ~ but no -8's here!

Thanks - you are right, it is expensive, we're just outside of Perth at the moment, but will be moving to Broome early next year, so want to find one that will work well up there too.
My sister is in the UK, and we were talking about the options etc. and she pays 7pounds a month for unlimited broadband (and way faster than anything i've seen over here!) - she couldn't believe the prices over here!

Economic issue of supply and demand vs. the tyranny of distance and small population alas!
