Spotlight search preferences?

Hi--

When I use Spotlight to search my Mac (10.6.7), I am annoyed by all of the Mail Messages that show up in the search results. I de-selected Mail in the System Preferences for Spotlight, but they still show up and clog the search results. Any advice?

There must be a least a dozen sites and videos showing how to use Spotlight and filtering out unwanted searches. I just did a Google and went through some of them. I don't know how useful any of them will be to you but I suggest giving it a try.

Having said the above, I'm not a lover of Spotlight. I use several other small free apps instead.
