Are you able to access the hard drive at all? If you have access to the drive and your Filevault password is working OK, you may be able to use recovery software. But first I would try repairing the disk with Disk Utility since it sounds like there may be corruption which resulted from the power failure. You'll need to do the repairs with the drive off line. Boot with your original install media and use Disk Utility.

I can boot and access most files, just some respond "could not be opened"

Disk Utility reports that the volume is not in need of repair (option unavailable/gray)

I did a "verify" and that completed ok

I will try the Install/Repair.

Thanks much for your advice !

Some sound advice .... make a backup of any document you can access before you go off using other " repair " tools.

" Filevault " and " Repair " are mutually exclusive..

Cheers ... McBie

A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila.
The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude towards the problem. You understand ?
