All, I'm sure this is a ridiculous question, but my MacBook is stuck at the logging in screen where the white and blue bar is rotating.

Here's what happened. I finally updated my macbook to Snow Leopard from Tiger (I know!) and the update went flawlessly. I logged in the first time without any issues and then after I did another 8 or 9 updates to different programs, it locked me out of my profile.

I used the CD to reset my password and because Vault was activated, I had to put in my master password, which I did, to get back into the profile. So, it's been trying to get back in for the last 6-7 hours. Should it be taking this long to decrypt all those files or do I have an issue? If I have an issue, does anybody have any idea how to help?

Thanks in advance!

How much is on the hard drive? If your drive doesn't have sufficient space for the decryption process to operate with, it may take a long time to get everything back to normal status.

I recommend you turn Vault off and keep it off as it can cause problems and loss of data.

Thanks! I have about 90GB or so on the hard drive that is used up. After 18 hours, it is still on the logging in screen. Can this take a day or two to get through!

Thanks!

It shouldn't be taking that long. While 90 GB of data to decrypt is going to take awhile, it should take no longer than several hours especially if the hard drive is large. If the drive capacity is 120 GB and you're decrypting 90 GB, it will take a long time but certainly not days.

I would stop the process and do a FSCK on the drive to see if there are any errors.
