Yesterday I tried transferring a pretty big amount of fonts onto my computer from my bosses hard drive. They transferred fine but I kept getting "corrupt font" windows that would pop up. I ended up deleting all the fonts that he gave me so that only my original fonts were in my library. Now I am unable to open Word (08) or Adobe Illustrator CS5, I just get a "not responding" error window. It seems my font book application will not work either so I cannot find if there are other fonts that are corrupt and causing this. I have restarted many times and I'm completely lost. Im a designer and I NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE THESE PROGRAMS!! Help me pleeease

Try starting the machine in SAFE boot mode and use the Font Book application to verify the fonts. It's a good indication that there are some fonts which are corrupt since Word 2008 and Adobe both refuse to open.

chscag Thank you for trying to help. So interesting thing happened, i rebooted in safe mode and font book worked perfectly... but it only showed 27 of my 360 fonts, they all validated. Also, while in safe mode, all my applications work perfectly! When I reboot in normal mode they refuse to open once again. Any thoughts???

P.S. Thanks a lot though because now at least I can do some work in safe mode

I recently downloaded a large amount of fonts. I immediately started getting corrupt font error windows, and my macbook was running super slow. I deleted all the fonts I downloaded but Word(08) and Illustrator CS5 now quit unexpectedly before opening every time. When I boot my computer using safe mode everything works fine. Fontbook also will not run properly so I cant validate all my fonts. (If I run fontbook in safe mode it works but only shows 20 of my 360 fonts.) What's going on?

Here's a copy straight from trouble shooting hints regarding safe boot:

Quote:
Booting into safe mode in Mac OS X is just a matter of holding down the shift key during system start, it’s helpful for troubleshooting a problematic Mac and does a number of things:

* Disables all startup & login items
* Loads only essential kernel extensions
* Disables all third party fonts
* Deletes font caches
* Forces a directory check (like Disk Repair)
* Removes a dynamic loader cache which can cause problems after a System Update
* Disables Quartz Extreme accelerated graphics

Basically if a Mac functions fine in Safe Mode but things are going wrong during a normal boot, something is obviously going wrong in the startup process, and safe mode helps you to narrow down the cause. It’s not something I’ve had to use often, but there’s been at least two occasions where machines were hanging upon loading the Finder and a funky 3rd party login item was to blame. If you ever get a blank blue screen after System Update, booting into Safe Mode will often resolve this by deleting the caches.
I hope from the above that you can sort things out. Notice the part about disabling all third party fonts. Let us know.

And.... Please do not start another thread. Keep the same thread going as long as the subject and question for help has not changed. I merged your two threads together as one.

Thanks for your cooperation.
