I Photo - storage space

Anyone know how much space Apple gives you? And how can I check how much I've utilized? thank you

Are you talking about the size of your HDD? Sorry but a little vague in your question there.

I understand Mac OS has only a limited number of photos you can store. Is that true?

All depends on how big your hdd is... but also the iPhoto library can contain up to 250,000 photos in "iPhoto 6" so if you have the most up to date version i'm sure it can handle alot more.
I've seen reports of Libraries in excess of 180,000 photos with no fuss what-so-ever
