I just bought this Mac - everyone seems to be saying I don't need an antivirus on this, and in fact, it could slow the system down. Thoughts? thanks

The vast majoirty of us long time OS X users do not use any A/V software in OS X - we all still use it in Windows running on our Macs.

This has been asked and answered countless times - please use the search function,

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.

Some say that you should use a virus checker so that you don't unwittingly pass one on to a Windows user, but, as any self respecting Windows user will have their machine stuffed full of virus checkers...why bother.

Because it's being a good network citizen and it really doesn't hurt you.

What if everyone felt that way? "Oh the next guy will have one"?

Their tough luck.

Also use a Dell Latitude with XP Pro and of course must run antivirus, in my case Microsoft Security Essentials. If windows users do not yet know to run AV they are on another planet!

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
