I've just replaced my PC with an iMac 3.02Gb with a 500Gb hard drive, Snow Leopard. I wonder if it's advisable to purchase soemthing like a WD 1.5Tb external hard drive and have two partitions, the first partition bootable with 1Tb with Time Machine or Carbon Copy cloner and the remaining 500Gb for documents, photos and videos?
My other problem is regarding formatting to use with PC and Mac, there is a lot of advice around so I'll look into it later on. Thanks for any help as I'm still a bit confused. |

As for your second problem, there is an easy answer. Format the drive you want to use for both Mac and Windows on the Windows Box as NTFS. Then download and Install a free App for the Mac called "NTFS Mounter". This will allow your Mac to write to the NTFS disc with no issues. Keep in mind that the Mac bootable partition will have to be in HFS+ though.

Yes. It will put an icon in the Macs menu bar that will allow to access NTFS formatted drives and write to them. OSX can natively read NTFS drives.
