Knowing how late Leopard ran, one can only say Brendan when it hits the stores! Steve Jobs not being well may also delay things.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Since it appears almost certain now that MBPs will be refreshed tomorrow, and Lion is poised to spring this summer (sorry about that!), what do you think the likelyhood is that Apple will give free or discounted upgrades to Lion for MBPs purchased between this Thursday and when Lion officially debuts?

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

Hi,

Hope not, and also that sceptics are wrong about his health issues.

The big upgrade I really waiting for is in iWeb so hope that is included when Lion comes out, as it feels very outdated.

Hi

The longer the gap the lesser the discount, (if any) though they are usually quite good with this type of thing.

Absolutely zero.

Lion won't be released until late Summer at the earliest. They haven't even started beta testing yet.

iWeb won't be included with Lion. It's part of the iLife suite and any updates will most likely be done via the Mac App Store.

Usually for a purchaser of a new computer to get some sort of OS "discount"...the new computer needs to be purchased AFTER the release of a new OS version.

For example...Snow Leopard "10.6" was released August, 2009...and some new computer models were introduced October, 2009.

Apple almost always likes to ship computers with the latest version of the OS...so computers that were already in the "pipeline" (in the distribution system) when 10.6 was first released (August, 2009) still had 10.5 on them. So if you purchased a new computer in late August or early September, 2009...there was a good chance you got OS 10.5 on that computer. By mid-September, 2009 till October, 2009...Apple either included a 10.6 "drop in disc" or the computer came with OS 10.6 already on it.

By October (when new models were released)...these computers would have already had 10.6 on them. So the only folks that probably would have qualified for some sort of "OS Discount" or "freebie"...would have been the folks who bought new computers between late August, 2009 thru mid-"Septemberish", 2009 (just after the release of OS 10.6 in late August, 2009).

Generally speaking...a computer purchased BEFORE a new OS release does not get any sort of OS "special". I think that this may be one reason why Apple (in many cases) has new hardware updates in the February/March or October/November timeframes...so to have as little conflict with new OS releases in the Summer.

Thanks Nick & Schweb.

I need to stay strong and not upgrade right away anyway. This just gives me another good reason to wait.
