i have an old ibook clamshell that has been handed down to me without the administrator password. after switching from windows to mac the differences were emmediate however the basics are the same. problem is i figured out how to make a sub-account on the administrator account and went to the user account as my primary and i cannot install something as simple as iTunes on it. not to mention that the version of safari is so old that most websites show up as if you were to look them up on a cell phone. if anyone knows a way around the administrator password without the use of the startup disk i would be greatly apreciative. it is still running MAC OSX 10.3.5 (7M34). if anyone has a startup disk that they dont use or need, i could definately use that.

Yes...it would help if you had an OS install disk to reset the Admin password...here's the procedure:

Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password

Also...the iBook Clamshell laptops are around 10+ years old...so don't expect a whole lot.

Obviously you didn't read everything on that page!

If you read carefully...under the "Resetting the original administrator account password"part...you would see that Step #1 is "Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc".

This is why you need a Mac OS install disk.

You are correct, that is a problem. Sooner or later, a computer without its OS installation disc becomes useless.

What do you mean..."Allow Apple to access the computer"?. What sort of "super duper secret info" is on this computer that would prevent you from allowing Apple access?

Also...how do you know Apple will even be able to help you? Have you asked Apple for help yet? BELIEVE me...walking into an Apple Store with a 10+ year-old iBook Clamshell computer...is like driving to your local Mall in a Ford Model-T!

I'm not saying that Apple can't or won't help you...but if you haven't checked with Apple yet...you should probably do that first.

You could also simply check e-Bay for a cheap set of OS 10.1, 10.2, or 10.3 OS install disks.
