I have a MacBook (2007), which was upgraded from Tiger to Leopard in 2008 when the hard drive crashed. 3 years later, the hard drive crashed again. I have been backing up my HD using Time Machine and was wondering if the OS was also copied onto the external HD I've been using. Can I recover the OS this way if I just get a new internal HD? Thanks for all the help!

G'day and welcome to the forums.

You do need the Leopard system install disc. Connect
the external, boot from the Leopard disc and format your new drive Mac OS Extended (Journalled) and then back up from Time Machine rather than a full install from the Leopard disc. Here is a how-to:-

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
