Just wanted to see if anyone has had any problems or incompatibilities running the 64-bit kernel? I've had mine running permanently 64 for the last 6 months with no problems whatsoever, so I'm wondering what the fuss was about releasing SL with a default 32-bit kernel.

A couple of benchmarks are showing speed boosts between 5-10%, and of course security is improved (not such an issue on Macs admittedly), so I see no reason not to switch.

Two reasons not to default to it:
1. Not all Intel Macs are 64-bit capable.
2. When SL was released, there were software incompatibilities with the 64-bit kernel. I'm sure some of them have been ironed out now but they weren't then.

You can still run 64-bit applications with the 32-bit kernel. Most of Apple's applications are 64-bit now. There's little reason to risk the incompatibility when most of the user applications will work fine without the 64-bit kernel.

Have been running 64 bit the day it was introduced ... never looked back .... no issues.

Cheers ... McBie

The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude towards the problem. You understand ?
