Running C program on OSX

I recently switched from Windows to Mac and bought a new MacBook Pro yesterday. I am getting used to it and I feel good about Mac now. Now my question - I am a student and use programming a lot to do my engineering projects at university. I want to learn how does one write,run and compile C program on Mac OSX.Are there any particular application required that I need to download to run C programs on my MacBook Pro.
