Hi

I save all my contacts in Address Book in the First Name field (not using Last Name Field). When I use Mail to send emails, somehow last name of the sender/recipient gets added to that person's contact. So John Harris becomes John Harris Harris - super annoying!

Someone suggested to delete all from Recent Recipients in Mail - I did that, it helped but only in relation to those contacts who have been deleted from Recent Recipients - is there a way to disable Mail poaching surnames from my emails and inserting them into address book automatically?

Thanks so much

I would just put the last names in the last name field. Then go into Address Book>Preferences and under the General tab choose "Sort by: First Name". It's the same as how you're doing it now but you won't have the double last names.

Yes
But the thing is I prefer to use FIRST NAMES only (I have some long names which make it complicated when splitting between First and Last) - any other suggestions please?

Just put a . for everyone in the last name field. As long as there is something in the last name field, it will not add a second last name.

But is there not a way to actually leave Surname blank and still get the thing to work properly. Also some one my address book contacts and iPhone entries are getting doubled - anyone can help?

Also if I erase all content from iPhone including my contacts - will they then be re-instated from Me.com or will they also be erased on Me.com?
