shutting down when putting to sleep

I am running leopard 10.6.4. My imac is shutting clear down when I put it to sleep. It goes to sleep first but sometimes I come back in a few hours and it has shut clear down. This has only been going on for a couple weeks. What could be causing this? Any suggestions?

You're running Snow Leopard not Leopard. Try resetting the SMC. See the following Apple KB article for instructions. LINK

Follow the instructions given for the iMac, (last one) not the portables.

Post back results.
