Hard drive icon?

I just got a new macbook pro and on my old macbook there was always the hard drive icon on my desktop. There isn't one on my new computer. Should there be one?

I like not having one, it's less cluttered. Clicking on Finder in the Dock does essentially the same thing anyway.
