Hello Guys

Can someone please tell me how I can create URL files. I followed some google tutorials ... but it didn't work !!

Say I want to create a url file linking to the BBC website.

How would I go about doing that ?

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank You.

Open the site in your browser.
Select the url in the address bar and drag it to the desktop (or where ever).

You can also drag it to the right side of the dock for one click launching.

That is a .webloc file !! which I don't think works on Windows !!

I want a URL file if possible.

Thank You.

This article shows you how to make one.
However I found out that in order for it to work I had to first convert the textedit document to plain text (command+shift+t), paste in the correct content, press enter once after the "URL=http://www.macosxhints.com" line so that there is an empty line underneath the "URL=http://www.macosxhints.com" line, and then save it as a .url by changing the .txt to .url when saving

If you are using Safari this apple script app will make you a .url file
Create URL Applescript.zip

I've had no problems with sending those to people on Windows...at least none that they've told me.

But if all you really want to do is give them a link, why do you need an actual file?

Well say for example I RAR up photos and send them to friends and family through a rapidshare link. between them photos and RS links I want a link to my blog ... or something of the sort.

IF you are saying a .webloc file works with windows .. then I have no problems in using that.

Thank You.
