Hi folks,

I'm new to the mac world and I'm not even sure I'm posting in the correct forum. I must say that after playing with a mac i'm now interested in owning one! So many things just make sense!

A friend of mine has a Macbook that's 2 years old. I'm sorry I didn't get a lot of specs.

I'm trying to burn .avi files using Nero on a PC so that she can watch them on her mac. I've downloaded and installed the divx package on the mac which I'm hoping will be enough to playback the files but it doesn't seem to like the dvd (-R).

Am I using the wrong kind of disc? Also, what disc format should I be using or what should I be doing so that she can read the disc in her drive and play the files?

This question is somewhat time sensitive as she's leaving for a trip soon.
Thx.

Ok but the Mac won't even recognize the disc. Does it matter if it's + or - R?

Is there a specific brand I should stay away from or specifically use? I used TDK branded discs from Costco.

I would recommend Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime components also. It will allow Quicktime to play back most formats.

I'm not a huge fan of VLC, especially since they've apparently almost halted Mac development due to lack of resources. I do use it for the occasional weird file that perian can't handle.

It shouldn't matter as far as I'm aware.

I like VLC and they have just released yesterday
VLC 1.1.0 was just released by VideoLAN. GPU and DSP decoding on selected platforms, new support for codecs, demuxers and muxers, Lua extensions and Lua content extensions (luaSD), improved interfaces, removal of lots of modules, rewrite of many modules in order to improve performance... and they have just completed new binaries for Mac OSX Intel

Cheers
