Yesterday before I went to sleep, I clicked on the update button with a few new updates that I wanted to install, one of them was a OS update, so I thought it must be important to get it installed.

My problem occurred when I closed the screen, now I wasn't supposed to COMPLETELY close the screen but it happened. So when I lifted the screen up again a message that said that the install was unsucessful and it asked me to restart the computer.

Now when I start the computer all I get is the gray apple screen with the apple icon, and the little circle underneath (showing that the machine is loading). I left it like that for 6 hours, while I slept, but it still won't go any further than that.

I ran both cd's that came with the macbook (the applications and the OS). I ran the disktest, the verify test of the rights, basically ive ran all the test that I can with the cd's and it still won't go further than the gray screen. I reinstalled snow leopard; still don't work.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!! I'm currently sitting on a windows vista pc... it's a real bummer let me tell you..

What kind of a reinstall did you do? Can you describe it for us? Take a look at the various methods of reinstalling OS X here.

Also, have you been making backups? Time Machine?

Regards.

yea at this point what chscag said if you have a time machine backup then you can restore your computer using that but if you don't then your looking at a archive and install. that will preserve your data.
