You need to log out of that admin account, and log into yours to delete it.
Once you are logged into yours, go to system preferences, accounts, click on the account to delete, click the minus, and type in the admin password.

You want to delete root? You can't. You may want to disable it though. For 10.5:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h.../en/11779.html

    For 10.6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h.../en/11779.html

Please verify and include the exact model/year of your Mac and OS X version number (available from "About This Mac", then "More Info" on the Apple menu).

One way to do it is reinstall the OS.

    Specs:
    17 inch 2 GHz C2D imac (5,1) with 3GB DDR2 RAM, X1600 (128MB memory) GPU - OSX 10.6.3
Re-installing the OS does not delete the root user. It just makes it invisible (and unusable) again till you activate it. But it is almost liek deleting it in most ways.
