I see the name for my computer under the Devices section in the Sidebar, but I do not have an option to change the name. When I bought my MacBook, I just did a Time Machine backup from my iMac, and now my device name has the word iMac in it and it just looks stupid since this is a MacBook.
How do I change that name? I have searched all throughout System Preferences and I cannot find it. It is driving me crazy.

Highlight the drive icon on the desktop, press enter, type in whatever you'd like to call it, then press enter again.

I need to back up - are you talking about the name of the machine or the name of the partition OS X is installed on?

I only have one partition on my MacBook and 2 partitions on my iMac. One is running OS X Snow Leopard and the other is running Windows XP.

Ok, to change the computer name, open up System Preferences
Head for Sharing - Computer Name is right there on the top line. Just type in the name you want and close the window. The edit button there is to change the name of what others will see if you are sharing anything on your local network. I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth. We will have none of those shenanigans here please
Dont forget to use the Reputation System if someone has helped you out !!! “I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom ….”― Edgar Allan Poe |

Maybe that's why he answers so many questions.
