Hi Everyone,

Looking for help / assistance with my Powermac G4 running OS-X 10.5

I can log into the system as the administrator and then when i wish to load new software or connect a new printer it asks for the adminisstrator user name and password. I then typein the same user name and password as i used to log in as and it come up with an error stating that it is incorrect

I have already reset the password by inserting the operating disc into the system and changing the administrator password again but this has not helped and am becoming frustrated that i cannot load any new software onto my system.

I have spoken to the shop that originally sold it to me and they want me to bring it in for a look see but thought it best to ask the guru's on the forum first.

Hoping someone can help

Thanks

Tim

Welcome to the Forum. First - did u set it initially or was that done when u got it.
How many Users show up in Sys Prefs > Accounts, and how many are Admin Users?
Could you be resetting the wrong password when using the install disk.

Hi Colin

It was swt up for admin when i bought it many years ago,. I have initially added 2 users but no issues with them.

When i load up the 10.5 disk i can reset the admin user password and that works when i decide to log in but then wont accept when i load new software.

Was thinking of copying all files from the 2 users and administrator to a extrnal drive, formatting the disk (no idea how to do this) and reinstalling the osx software.... Is this the easiest solution to resolving my issue?

Thanks for your help.

Tim

When the computer boots up does it go into a Admin User or a Standard User - check that by settings in Sys Prefs > Accounts then click on Login Options.
If u have copies of important stuff might be time to do a fresh install but choose the option of Archve and install so u retain a copy of your files on the HD.
