Pref panes died

For some reason if I try to get any pref pane instead of loading up it just gives for the folder of where the pref pane is any suggestions

Suggestion 1/ state your OS
Suggestion 2/ If u have a Mac tell us which model of Mac
Suggestion 3/ Tell us what you were trying to accomplish and what steps u took
