Hi all, really sorry if this is a super dumb question but very new to Mac's and trying to find my way I brought a second hand G4 (mirror 1.2ghz) running 10.4 Tiger.

I tried making a new user account and deleting the old one but it has coursed a lot of issues and i seem to be locked out of a lot of programs including the desktop folder!

So am now looking into upgrading the software to 10.5 Leopard. As i do not have the Tiger disks what version of Leopard do you think i need?

I'v seen upgrade, full or single user options ranging from £70 - £200 new and second hand, not sure what to get.

Are there any issues with using second hand copies of this software?

Cheers for any help with this.

You can use any version of OS 10.5 you want (10.5.0 thru 10.5.8).

To be on the safe side...you probably want to get the full install.

Not sure what you mean by second hand copies (versus unauthorized copies). If you mean original disks previously owned by someone else. These are fine...as long as they are not seriously scratched up.

Hope this helps,

- Nick

adding to that, stay away from the grey discs, as they are machine specific.

And if you mean used as second hand, no problem as there are no 'activation codes' on Apple software, just reliance on the user's sense of honesty to install on one Mac at a time.
