Hey all -

My G5 with OSX 10.4.11 keeps freezin up on me. Every time I click on iTunes, or my web browser, i just get the spinning wheel. I cant for the life of me figure out what exactly is causing this. IF you guys could offer up any suggestions - that would be amazing. If not, I was thinking of Re-installing the OS... the problem with that is - I bought it refurbished and it did not come with installation disks..

So can I pay the 30 bucks and upgrade to the latest version? Or, do I have to buy a whole new version of OSX. Thank you so much for your support!

Unfortunately, the latest version (10.6, Snow Leopard) is Intel only. You can't run it on that machine. You would have to search for a 10.4 or 10.5 disc, which can be pricey.

Start here and let us know how you make out:

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Haven't you seen all the posts about ordering it by phone from Apple?

Just a couple of weeks ago, someone reported getting a Leopard retail disc from Apple for $80 US. But, you have to call the number found on the web site for the online store. Be persistent, but polite.

Let us know if they still have them.

Yes, I have seen some anecdotal comments to that effect. Do note the phrasing I used in my reply. Regardless, I think reinstalling is a bit premature for what is likely a very simple problem.

Well, yeah. "Pricey" can be $20 for some.

Kellen, if any of those basic troubleshooting suggestions do the trick, let us know.

If you haven't tried it already try running a sudo permissions repair from the command line.
sudo diskUtil repairPermissions /
