My iMac ( <2 yrs old) runs snow leopard and often fails to connect to the Westell 2200 DSL modem when it boots up. Requires reboots until it finally sees the modem. Connection is ethernet. Apple support has not helped. Does anyone have a script-driven way to retry the connection? Would love to avoid all the reboots.

That's DEFINITELY not how that should work. You should get a man from your ISP in to fix that.

(chances are that something in your Network setup is incorrect, or something in the modem is)

At what speed it your Ethernet port configured ?
I remember there used to be some issues when speed is set to ' autoselect '.
Maybe try to manually configure your Ethernet port on the Mac to match the speed of the modem ethernet port.
Also have a look at the ' full duplex ' of ' half duplex ' settings of the ports.

Cheer ... McBie

The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude towards the problem. You understand ?
