First off, this may not be in the right section or whatever, but i just joined so cut me some slack.
My problem is in my 'network dropdown' on my 'menu bar' there is a device with the name SPYKEE0870028387 coming up. Just saw it today for the first time and wanted to know what to do about it. I have had this mbp for a year or so now but am still trying to figure it out, so dont go nuts on the jargon and whatnot. Anyway, appreciate ur time .. |

That would be one of your neighbors networks within range of your notebook so that you can see it.
I can see up to 5 other networks beside the 2 I have sitting in my house. I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth. In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus. Place your vote for our Member of the Month |

Then it's what Bobtomay said in his reply. Sometimes I see 10 networks listed there. 6 are different access points I have around the house and also routers that I am testing and the others are neighbors WiFi Routers.
I took my iBook to downtown San Francisco and every block there were sometimes 25 or more in the Airport icon! Many were open also!

Yea, your picking up other available networks in your area. Nothing to be alarmed about. Just make sure yours is secured.
The name of a network is called an SSID. |

OK, well I guess I should take your educated opinions, i guess the spy at the first part threw me off. Also because its not under networks in that menu, its under devices all by its lonesome. Is there a reason that it would be isolated under devices when other networks secured and unsecured show together with no heading?
Also since I have u guys here, maybe you could tell me what i should have for a router. When we moved in we got a d-link router with mac capability as there are multiple computers in our house. I tried to get it up and running and did not have succes. We got a windows computer to configure the router and everything was ok. Atleast for my mbp. The windows computers had trouble connecting and staying connected. Since there were multiple unsecured networks we didnt worry about it too much. Now, my mac is having problems staying connected. What do i do for this? Is there anything I can do to make sure that I stay on my network? |

Ohh, its under devices?
You are seeing a computer that has some sort of sharing enabled. It doesn't have to be connected to your network to display in the list. The D-Link should work, are all of the computers in range? Make sure the router isn't on the floor and blocked by stuff. On a table or book shelf is the best location. If it still acts up, maybe reset the router (and dont forget to re-enable the security) |
