Hi There,

I'm having a problem finding my user account. I go to System Preferences but I have no account icon. When I go to Mac help on my computer, and search "Create User" it gives me a link to "open Accounts preferences" but when I hit the link I get the following error: "The item cannot be opened. It may be disabled or not installed. 2 param error".

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Do I have to reinstall my operating system? I'm using OS X 10.5.8

Thanks for your help

Sounds like you're missing a preference pane. Do the following:

Navigate to: /Volumes/MacIntosh HD/System/Library/PreferencePanes/

Do you see a folder named "Accounts.prefPane"? If it's not there, you probably need to reinstall OS X to get it back. If you have been making backups with Time Machine, you may be able to go back in time before it somehow disappeared and restore it.

Regards.

Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server: How to Replace the NetInfo Database

Here is one suggestion but if you familiar with Terminal, perhaps a clean install will be the go. By any chance did you install whatever your current OS is, post does not state which is always difficult, by upgrading?
