Hi there first time user and here is my problem. There are a number of my pictures in the iphoto library that when you click on them to increase the size to full screen a big grey screen appears with a white dotted box and an exclamation point in the middle. please help!!!!

Have you tried to organize or make changes to your photos directly in the library in finder? That is the most common cause for iPhoto to not be able to find your photos. Users are not meant to go into that file and do anything to their photos -- it renders iPhoto useless. Do anything and everything to/with your photos from within the app itself, and forget that the library in finder is there.

Now, having said that, the best recommendation I would have would be to rebuild your library like this: iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library. It may take a manual rebuild as described later in the article. This can and does result in some duplicates (in my case, I had quads of some photos), but I'd rather have all of them back and have to delete the smaller resolution versions, than to have lost my photos.

Give this a try, and report back. And remember, stay out of the library in finder!
