Hello, I am wondering if anyone can offer insight as to why a USB flash drive won't mount anymore. Some time back it used to work, then it wouldn't even appear in Disk Utility. I reformatted it FAT32 on a Windows machine, and now can see in DU and System Profiler. However, I can Verify or Repair, but the MOUNT button in Disk Utility remains grayed out.

??????

I want to transfer music between computers, so this is really annoying me.

Meanwhile I also have a USB-SD adaptor. With that, the light comes on connected to a PC, but with either of 2 SD card which worked previously, it is not seen under Windows or OS X Disk Utility. Does that mean the adaptor just went bad?

Update: by accident, I see it mounted on the desktop, but not on the left pane of a Finder window. I dimly recall that might be some kind of idiot settings or preference issues, anyone remember?

Ah, my savior!! So many thanks.

It had somehow changed to "-" instead of a check mark. Why the heck would that be? And what does "-" mean?

And anyone have advice about the never-seen SDs? Just time to trash the adaptor?

With a PPC Mac Firewire is better choice for transfers and back ups and essential if you want to boot from the back up.
