How to play webcam videos from my dell laptop on my iMac?

I recently got an iMac, and I'm in the process of transferring everything from my dell laptop to the mac. The videos from previous cameras worked, but videos I recorded with my webcam gave me an error message (something along the lines of this cannot be viewed). I have tons of treasured webcam video recordings and I need them on y mac (giving my laptop away). What can I do?

Are you using VLC Player? It's basically iron-clad, and will handle many video formats. In what format are the 'unplayable' videos? At some stage you may wish to consider converting them to a Mac-friendly format. .avi is generally regarded as universal.
