I am looking for some help. Wondering if somebody can point me in the right direction or give me some links to some documentation. I am not familiar with Mac Server.

We just purchased a Mac Mini server. We want to join it to an Active Directory domain. Here are the things I am trying to accomplish and unsure if it is possible.

Join Mac Server to AD Domain. Use the AD users and groups for security.

Setup Single sign on on the Mac Workstations to use there Active Directory accounts.

Setup to automatically mount a samba share, which the users have access to.

Not sure if this is possible, but use the logged in credentials when users mount drive or login to Entourage.

Thanks!

You don't need a Mac server to have Mac clients utilize AD user accounts.

Use Directory Utility to bind machines to the domain. "Single Sign On" will be used by utilizing the logged in AD account. Be sure there are no local users with the same login name as in AD. Macs will look at the local directory for a match before AD.

If you are planning on hosting services from the Mac Server I believe joining it to the domain alone will not yield directory replication.

I thought there would be to import all AD User and Groups into the Mac server giving me more control. Just joining the computer to the domain gave me issues. It ignored permissions for one. I want to centrally manage the Mac environment. I would like to setup to auto mount drives and prevent them from logging in with there AD account every time they mount a drive or use entourage. It was my understanding that directory service integrated with AD would give me the best management. I am really looking for some good documentation on how this works and how to set it up if there is any out there.

We will also be setting up Netboot with the server for imaging. We also may be using other options with the Mac Server.
