Hi
I just upgraded to the tiger OSX. I am trying to open a file that is compressed (.sit). After doubleclicking on it it gives me a msg: "Sorry, Expander will not work without the stuffit Engine. Please reinstall from the original installer."

What does it mean? I have a suffit. It used to work. Is there something I have to adjust or download/install some other aplication?

Thanx for any help

Stuffit expander works fine on my system with 10.4. I suggest that you download the latest version and re-install it. Here is a link:

It's free !!!

So you upgraded from Panther or did a clean install? Tiger no longer comes with Stuffit Expander installed, but if you upgrade, it should use the one in Panther. It worked for me and others who upgraded.

I would suggest either going to Version Tracker or www.stuffit.com and grabbing the Free Expander. I am still not sure why Apple chose to remove it from Tiger as there are so many Mac files in .SIT format, but it's an easy fix.

I should think that they removed it because you can now archive files in zip format with the system and 'stuffit expander' program inclusion would have been costing Apple extra money.
