To Boot your mac from the disk drive, hold the "C" key at start up... right...?? Well I put my Leopard disk in (labled "For Mac Computers Mac OS X Install Disk 1", beneath it says it's version 10.4.8) and held the "C" key in countless different ways each time at start up to get the semi-leopard restore screen and instead my computer just reboots after about 5-10 seconds of holding the key. This is just repeated each time.

Hold the C key at start up tone, until it gives you the choice of boot!
Are they the install discs that came with your computer?

Well the disc you are using is Tiger and not Leopard. You do not give machine specs, and it sounds like Tiger will not boot, probably you are using an Intel machine which requires a different version of Tiger. If you do have Leopard installed, use the Leopard DVD and please don't tell us you don't have one!

If you are using the correct install disc, something else you can try doing is to go into your system preferences (while the disc is in the drive), click on Startup Disk, and manually choose the Install disc as your boot device. Barring that, you can restart while holding down the option key and then choose the OS X disc as your boot option. Good luck!
