OSX Tiger - Which anti-virus?

I recently purchased the Norton Anti-virus 9.0.x update for OSX 10.3.9. When I installed Tiger my menu bar icons for Norton AV were gone and Live Update no longer works. If you try to contact Norton's support via the web page installed in the software application folder, it takes you to a PC-only support page (naturally).

What anti-virus software are the folks here using to run under Tiger? I've heard that Virus Barrier by Intego give false-positives, and Virex is pretty useless. Authentium ESP Antivirus for the Mac looks interesting, but I know nothing about that company.

Typically the consensus around here is that the biggest virus for OS X is Symantec products. Most if not all malicious code written is written for the x86 platform, which Apple hardware does not share. Just keep up with your security updates and you should be fine.

Desolate One is right, we usually frown upon all the anti-virus apps. At the moment, you'll only want one, if you network your mac with pcs. Because you don't want your mac to spread anything over the network that will harm your pcs. Otherwise, you have no viruses to worry about at the moment. You'll just either need to reinstall the app again or wait until Symantec updates the app to be compatible with Tiger.

Well what do you know, not only are viruses not compatible with Tiger, neither are virus-like apps! Great news.

Virex is not yet compatible with Tiger and neither is Norton AV. Give them a few weeks and I'm sure there will be updates. Either is a good program despite what some posters may say in this thread.

NAV 9 seems to working fine on my machine. It originally came up with the incompatibility error, but after I booted from the 10.4 DVD and fixed disk permissions it started working fine. Go figure...
