Hello, I have a problem with my mac.
Something went wrong (maybe itunes) and 80% of my music files became invisible! At first i thought i lost my music but VLC was able to find it, so I downloaded a script which show the invisible files on a mac.
Turns up music still there but invisible! (gray color when i have set invisible files to reveal)
I found a way making an invisible file visible with macpilot, but mac pilot can make one at a time and i have about 3000 files... Is there a way to make the files visible again but quicker than mac pilot?

Have you repaired Permissions? You can do it via Disk Utility, but Onyx Titanium Software does it better, not to mention a few other useful fixing and tidying jobs.

Thank you for your answer!

I tried that both onyx and disk utility reports that repair was successful but with that error message:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired
Can't be sure what's this, but i dont think remote management has something to do with music :S

At the moment i don't have my Snow Leopard disk with me so i can't try a disk repair from the disk utility of the setup disk.

Any suggestions?

There's a fault within the OS, which might be repaired with the SL disk, but obviously you don't have that facility right now. I'd suggest Archive and Install of SL (which will retain all your non-OS files), but it may not be necessary.

A Google check of 'SUID file' found several references the the issue you're experiencing, including this: Mac OS X 10.5: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore (scroll right to the bottom!).

Keep us informed of how you get on, but first you'll need that SL disk!

Yeap, I'm not home right now and i will come back at 2 of Dec,
that apple's support article is comforting! I guess Jaadu VCN may cause that permission problem.
Anyway, is there a way to make my music files again visible?
Thank God(?), VLC and Songbird can still see my invisible files!

Again hughvane thanks for your help

I think you've already tried MacPilot, and there are others:
Viewing hidden files on a Mac - Mac Guides
See invisible files in Finder via Spotlight - Mac OS X Hints
itunes hidden files - Google Search

VLC ... can still see my invisible files!
Indeed! In fact, I much prefer VLC (better playback quality to my ear) and use it to play a list of music files which I drag from iTunes Music ƒ to VLC's window (click the little Playlist symbol at lower right of the small VLS window). The beauty - I think - of VLC is that it doesn't save files and clutter up the hard drive even more.

One other thought - select any one of the invisible music files and - if you can - Get Info. I wonder if there's something there that you can change and then apply to all similar files.

Hello! After a long time!
Repair from the setup disk did not solve the problem!
BUT! I manage to solve my problem using the trial of the A Better Finder Attributes 4! (Under the lock option)
I didn't have to buy it but it saved me a lot of time and trouble so i maybe do!

So we can call this [SOLVED]

Thanks hughvane for your support

as for this.... Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired
It is a normal warning to see.... part of the faulty reporting system of disk utilities.
It will come up after your update to 10.6.1 and so forth, much as it will if you restore from a backup onto your system after a fresh install.
Installing the latest Java update will give you another permission repair modification warning, that will say that it has been repaired, but will keep coming up.
From experience, the list will keep growing with certain updates until the next OS X (10.7.x) comes out. Hopefully by then, Apple will have tackled this reporting issue.

BTW, this could have also been solved using SetFile and find...

something like this
Code:
find . -iname *.mp3 -exec SetFile -a v {} ';'
explanation:

the find statement will look in the current directory (.) for any file named *.mp3. The -iname means the search is case insensitive.
The -exec switch will execute the SetFile command on all returned files. Please always run the find statement without the exec switch
to ensure that you're returning the correct fileset before performing it. This is especially true with any exec statement that utilizes rm..

You can view a files visible/invisible attribute with

GetFileInfo -av <filename>

a visible file will return 0.

the lowercase v makes it visible.. to make it invisible you'd do a capital V.
