I just opened my computer from being asleep and nothing on the desktop worked. It's like it wasn't even there. This is the second or third time that has happened in the past couple of weeks. Restarting fixes it. Any ideas? I'm using 10.5.8.

You could try a fresh com.apple.desktop.plist file.

You'll find that in your Home folder(house icon) > Library > Preferences.
Drag it out onto your Desktop for safekeeping.
Fire up Mail.(see correction below - Mail not relevant here)
If the problem is gone, delete the file you moved, it is corrupt.
A new one was created in the Preferences folder, set to defaults.

If that fails, try using Mail (ditto) from a different User Account. If the problems go away, your other account is corrupt.

Oops! I think I might have done that in TWO threads today! Now I have to go look for the other one...

Instead of "fire up Mail" it should be "Restart".

Also, "using Mail from" should be deleted.

Cool, thanks. I tried that and hope that it won't happen again.
