After running First Aid in disk utility several times these
messages appear:

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

Also my applications constantly shut down; 'application has quit unexpectedly

Are these monsters related or are they two separate issues?

My Macbook pro was running perfectly well before installation of
Snow Leopard?

The disk permission errors you found are listed here as warnings you can ignore.

What applications are crashing for you?
