    Copy /usr/local from Previous System to current system
    what is the best way to do this and maintain symlinks and sub-directories etc.

    Specs:

    You can pull it over manually and then run Disc Utility, including Permission repair, and it may work. I've done this before with some success.

    tarballing it with a p flag (as root) should do it.
