My girlfriend recently purchased a Macbook Pro and we immediately replaced the HDD with a new 500GB 7200 RPM before we even turned on the new machine.

My question is this; can I put that HDD that came with the Pro into my HP DV5? Will it recognize the hardware? I do not have access to the OS X disk anymore but it is already loaded onto the HDD.
QUOTE Thanks

You can't use the OSX on a PC based machine, but you can re-partition and format for Windows. The drives are just standard SATA drives.

You can put the HDD into the HP, but if it works, Apple probably won't be too happy about it.

Yes, the hardware is completely compatible, or should be. You will have to reformat the disc for Windows though.
