After installing SL, I noticed a weird thing:

Both of my firewire drives show up, but my "Macintosh HD" is nowhere to be found on my desktop.

Did they get rid of this in SL? (I can still see it in the sidebar in Finder).

***EDIT***

I just found out that "hard disks" was unchecked in the Finder preferences window. (Maybe that is the new default??)

Yea this is the new default in SL. I was panicking a bit when my HD wasn't showing up but just needed to check the box in the Preferences window.

You can get the drive icons back in Finder > preferences > General tab
