Is it possible to have time machine and other backups (such as photos, music etc) on a 1 TB HDD?

What folder or file do I need to backup to keep my emails?

Is it necessary to backup programs I have downloaded and if so, how?
QUOTE Thanks

Yes for Q1 No for Q3 as apps keep getting upgraded so u might as well download the latest when u need it. Q2 is more a case of thinking about your back up strategy - if u have a bootable back up of current HD then with failure of one disk you can continue working with the other and in the case of the bootable back up you can keep it off site to cover for Fire/Theft then that posibly gives greatest protection.

thanks for the info. I do have a bootable backup using superduper.

Do you know what file or folder I need to backup emails or is this even necessary if I use time machine and have a bootable backup?

If u have a superduper bootable back up u have a copy of all old emails if u have a TM back up you can go back to older versions of any file so seems to me that you have it covered. When my MackbookPro had to be sent away i just booted off my Ext HD bootable back up thru wifes iMac and continued as normal, when i got MBP back just did a copy of Ext HD to HD of MBP and had all the latest. Nothing lost and other than booting wife off her iMac was able to continue as normal

danible,
I always save the dmg files of downloaded apps, mostly freeware ones so they can be reinstalled, or more often, shared with newbies even if they are no longer available online. Some Panther / Tiger ones still work fine on Leopard.... Snow kitty may well be another matter.
A 3Gb monthly internet cap makes it more important.

~ 15" MacBook Pro. OSX 10.7 ~ 3G iPad 2 ~
Measure twice, cut once..
