I am making the switch to the Mac OS with the purchase of a new 17" Powerbook, that I'm recieving later this week. I will do a lot of computing on the PC platform, but will do graphic design on the mac.
Anyways, here's my question: A friend recently told me that he doesn't liek the Mac OS. After spending a whole long 5 minutes with it, he seems to think its a lot like Windows 3.1 . Now I've only used Mac OS X for a little while, but I really don't see this connection that he sees. What do you all think? |

I think anyone who feels that OS X is like Windows 3.11 has not worked on Windows 3.11 for a while. I can see the connection to NeXT and NextStep but not WFW 3.11.
I can see a vague connection between tiling windows in 3.11 and Expose but even that is a stretch. Not liking OS X is one thing but saying it is like WFW 3.11 make little sense. Did he elaborate as to why he felt that? |

The very first time I saw a computer, it was a wintel 3.1 I liked it. My first system had win 95 and it looked so much more fancy and advanced. Well that didn't last long for well known reasons. Ironically, win 3.1 has the same lack of registry file system core that OS X and Linux and Unix BSD and Mac system 9 enjoy today. But any similarity between win 3.1 and OS X? How?
