I want to make it so it's not possible to delete a file/folder that's marked with a red label. Is there any possible way that would edit the OS to make it do that? Thanks!

You can use permissions but it means that you will have to change the permission for each individual red folder. That could be a lot of work depending on how many red folders you have.

Regards.

I would assume you could make an AppleScript to do something like that. I don't know much about said language, but I would assume there must be a way. If it helps, the Trash is in ~/.Trash.

If you don't know the answer to my question, please don't post a smartass reply. No, I couldn't "just not delete them". I share my computer with someone who knows nothing about computers, so he may delete my folders that I need for work.

I don't have many folders with the red label, so I could tolerate marking them all manually. But how exactly could I do that?

I know nothing about AppleScript, but I'm sure that'll come in handy sometime later on!

Thank you all for your replies!

Here's how you're going to proceed dear friend :

You're going to click on one of the folders/file and you're going to do ⌘I (or File>Get Info) which will open the information dialog of the selected folder/file.
This is what you should normally get :

Now you're going to look at the rectangle that I draw for you, that's where all you attention is going to focus :
First of all you're going to click on the little lock on the bottom right to unlock the preferences (so you're put your password).
Then you're going to change "Read & Write" to "Read only" (where the arrow is).

And you're done.

The only inconvenience I think is that every time you'll want to change something in the folder or file you'll have to do all of this in the other way but that's your own choice!!

Hope that helps!!

Thank you for providing a more complete explanation of your actual problem, instead of asking a rather obscure and, frankly, silly question. Your question as you phrased it doesn't really make much sense without background.

I would suggest that you and your friend use separate user accounts. This would prevent him from doing any damage to your files (or to the system itself.)

In the future, when you ask a question about a technical topic on the Internet, I would suggest that you try to avoid taking leaps of logic and actually give a full explanation of what it is you need to do and why you need to do it. This will help people to give useful and complete advice.

My response was the same as technologist's first response, but he beat me to it.

Yes, there is a need to state the background (or the "why") of questions like this. The proper answer to an issue is not always according to one's initial thought.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
