A more direct question - Can I accidently write over the boot sector of the mac when loading windows using bootcamp. The mac still loads different systems when holding the control key down. Is this mean all is fine? If I write over the Mac boot sector how can I fix it? thanks Alan

I do not believe that bootcamp will allow that. You could do it by other installation techniques, but not using bootcamp.
