OS 10.5 - I'm in computer limbo!!
|
Hope you can help. I wanted to resize the windows partition on my macbook but got an error message telling me to backup data - reformat the drive - restore and then use bootcamp to partiton. After problems with not being able to read the external drive I used to backup, I was finally able to get the image restored and use bootcamp to resize and winclone to restore the windows partition (10 hrs0. However, when using winclone I needed to have the ntfs format on windows to get the files to fit the new size and the expand didn't work so I loaded vista. Unfortunately, my legal copy was scratched and unreadable so had to use a bootlegged copy. This wasn't smooth and I think the mbr was copied from this disk. I got lots of errors when loading the boot sector info- may be implicit in bootlegged copy. Now windows hangs with a black screen after logon. Boot bcd application says can't find the boot file when I asked to see if it is corrupt. I am wary of rewriting this from the program because it would be in windows. I'm not sure if the mbr is written by MAC. I am able to use the option key to get different OS on startup. Am I supposed to have the windows in the mbr. There is a fix it in the bootbcd application or otherwise that anyone can suggest. I don't know what to do. I've had so many problems I don't need anymore. Does mac have it's own boot mbr or is the one from windows being used. I'm confused any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks Alan
