Hi
I have Mac OS X Version 10.3.9

I play online poker on a site called Hollywood Poker and it worked fine until today when it is now suddenly saying I need Java Version 1.5 or above.

It then says to click on the Apple Menu then Software Update to update Java.

But, when I click Software Update to check for updates there is no Java update.

Can anyone advise if I can get Java 1.5 on my Mac and if so, the best way to get this?

Many thanks
Guy

I don't know if this exists in Panther but if it does, open up /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences.app. What versions of Java does it list there?

You can also open up Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and type "java -version" (without the quotes) to see what version of Java you are using. As a note, Java 5 = version 1.5.0.

From what I have seen, Java 5 doesn't appear to be available for Panther (10.3). It is possible that the site updated their software, which has increased the requirements.

Thanks Vansmith
I was able to look up the version and it was 1.4.2.
So it is probably, like you say, the site I am trying to use has updated its software and my Mac is too old for this.
If any users have been able to get Java 5 on 10.3 please can they let me know.
Thanks

Java 5 (aka 1.5...don't ask) is only available for 10.4 (Tiger) and above.

Java 6 (aka 1.6) is only available for 10.5 (Leopard) and only on 64-bit Intel Macs.
